Charlotte was working at an accounting firm in Auckland when she decided to pack up her life and move over to Iraq.
The desire to know more about the world than what was written on news websites filled her with questions; what was really going on there? How did the people there live their lives?
She signed up to work for a school. Countless people told her not to go. Initially employed as the Head of the Math Department, Charlotte ended up teaching a range of subjects from English to Physics with challenges being more than just the language barrier
While there may have been isolated moments of fear and uncertainty, Charlotte found it extremely rewarding. Poorly worded “ She discovered her resolve as a kiwi – an ability to adapt to a wide variety of situations” She also met other New Zealanders in this part of the world doing incredible and inspiring work.
Would she do it again? In her words, one hundred percent yes.
