We've all had it... that uncomfortable feeling when what you've eaten just doesn't agree with your stomach. "F.O.D.M.A.P" (Fermentable Oligo-, Di- & Monosaccharides And Polyols) is a short way to describe a type of carbohydrates found in certain foods which can cause discomfort in your tummy and can be a trigger for symptoms of I.B.S. (Irritable Bowel Syndrome).
The low-FODMAP diet was developed by researchers at Monash University in Melbourne.
The researchers found that consuming foods high in FODMAPs results in increased symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating and disturbed bowel habit in susceptible people. Their theory proposes that following a low-FODMAP diet should result in a decrease in digestive symptoms. Foods which avoid or minimise ingredients known to be high in FODMAPs are called "FODMAP Friendly".
Vogel's Cafe-Style Light Almond & Ancient Grains minimises ingredients known to be high in FODMAPs.
Delicious FODMAP Friendly goodness we've included... | The not-so-friendly ingredients we've left out... |
Just a little sprinkle of deliciously tart cranberries and juicy raisins. | Vogel's is known for really generous handfuls of different dried fruits in almost all of our products. For this FODMAP friendly cereal we had to think a bit differently, so have kept to a minimum the fruit we normally love to include. The amount of cranberries and raisins is little enough that a small quantity of FODMAP Friendly fresh fruit can still be added to a serving of cereal for extra goodness. |
A generous helping of nutrient-rich wheat-free grains. Our blend of buckwheat, oats, corn and millet will get you going and keep you going... and best of all, won't weigh you down. | We know the problems wheat can cause, and not just in people who suffer from IBS. To keep the spring in your step, we've eliminated wheat containing ingredients from this blend. |
A protein powerhouse of almonds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, linseeds and sunflower seeds. | Nuts and seeds are usually well tolerated, so in true Vogel's style we've crammed in as many as we can! |
A hint of scrumptious brown sugar and golden syrup... mmm. | The excess fructose found in honey and fruit juice concentrates is a definite no no... we've stuck with well-tolerated sugars to add a touch of sweetness to this mouth-watering breakfast. |
We recommend enjoying Café-Style Light Almond & Ancient Grains with lactose-free milk or yoghurt to ensure you don't counteract all the FODMAP Friendly goodness in this delicious blend.
